Drug Uses
Carafate is used for curing and prevention of ulcers. It can also be used for other situations as prescribed by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Carafate as advised by your doctor. Take Carafate on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Don't use an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this drug. It may take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take Carafate at the same time as other drugs. Take Carafate at least two hours after other drugs. If you are not sure about the best time to take Carafate, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Additional Information
Carafate can cause dizziness. These effects can worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you know how you respond to this drug. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, call to your doctor. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been suggested. Don't use less or more or use it more often than directed by your doctor.
