Carafate is used for treatment and prevention of ulcers. It can also be used for other conditions as directed by your physician.
How Taken
Use Carafate as suggested by your physician. Use Carafate on an empty stomach at least one hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Don't use an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking Carafate. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take Carafate at the same time as other pills. Take Carafate at least 2 hours after other pills. If you are not sure about the best time to take Carafate, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not drive or perform other possibly negative tasks until you know how you react to this medicine. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, visit your physician. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been advised. Do not take less or more or use it more often than directed by your doctor.
