Drug Uses
Carafate is used for treatment and prevention of ulcers. It may also be used for other situations as directed by your physician.
How Taken
Use Carafate as advised by your physician. Take Carafate on an empty stomach at least one hour before or twp hours after a meal. Do not take an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this medicine. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Don't use Carafate at the same time as other pills. Use Carafate at least 2 hours after other pills. If you are not sure about the best time to use Carafate, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Carafate can cause dizziness. These effects can worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, ask your physician. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Don't use less or more or take it more often than recommended by your physician.
